Tailbone Pain Treatment
Coccydynia is pain developing in the coccyx or tailbone area caused usually by childbirth, falling backwards or sitting down too abruptly. Other causes can come from persistent pressure during bicycling although in this case, coccydynia or tailbone pain is often temporary however may turn chronic if uncontrolled. Improper sitting posture which can strain the coccyx may also cause coccydynia to be developed.
In some rare cases, coccydynia can be caused by a tumor or a sacroccygeal teratoma in the coccyx area. For cases like these, chemotherapy and/or surgery may be required.
