The different types of ear discharge is an indication of different ear problems. If the ear discharge is foul smelling then it is often showing an indication of cholesteatoma or infection. A sign of ear infection will be indicated by brown or yellow fluid while persistent infections will be indicated by sticky and thick ear discharge containing blood stains. Ear discharge in acute infections are usually white. Bloody ear discharge especially with signs of fresh blood often is an indication of ruptured microvessels of the inner or middle ear or sometimes an indication of serious bleeding in the cranial cavity.
