Treatment for Dry Ear
Ears can become itchy and dry from a variety of reasons including psychological disturbances such as ears being constantly scratched out of anxiety, skin disorders such as dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema, lack of ear wax, excessive ear cleaning or accumulation of dead hair and dead skin tissue. There are also cases where similar symptoms to that of dry ear canal can be caused by an allergic reaction to plastic hearing aids.
Sometimes dry ear canal may indicate a severe ear infection especially if the ear skin is irritated and cracked. This type of ear infection is called swimmer’s ears which is a result of moisture being trapped within the ear canal. Of course, swimmers tend to suffer from this problem more than others.
Due to the ear canal being extremely sensitive, the slightest amount of debris can cause constant intolerable itchy sensation within the ear. In addition to ear itchiness problem, ear dryness can also produce dead skin flakes around the ear canal opening. If the dry itchy ear canal is coupled with trapped water then muffled hearing or pain may even arise.
